In a bid towards a broader outreach of Indian football, Sony Pictures Networks India has acquired the television rights for the Indian Football League (IFL), the second division of the Indian football pyramid. With this deal, the remainder of the inaugural season will be broadcast on Sony.
Rajesh Kaul, chief revenue officer and business head, Sports and International, Sony Pictures Networks India, said, “The Indian Football League is an important pillar of the country’s football structure, with deep regional followings and a vital role in shaping the next generation of talent. With this acquisition, we are further strengthening our football offering and building a more complete ecosystem for fans in India, one that spans the biggest international stages as well as the heart of the domestic game.”
Earlier this year, FanCode had also sublicensed the linear TV rights for the Indian Super League to the media conglomerate.

Who Leads The Indian Football League?
Diamond Harbour sits at the top of the table with 19 points from eight matches, with only one round remaining before the competition moves into its next phase. The 10 teams will then be split into two groups, one competing for the title and the other battling to avoid relegation.
Before the start of the season, the I-League underwent a revamp and was renamed the IFL, with clubs taking on majority ownership in the new structure.
