Live tracking footage from MarineTraffic shows vessels flowing through the Strait of Hormuz before the Iran war began, after the ceasefire announcement, and following the US-enforced maritime blockade.
The US military has warned vessels that they will be subject to “interception, diversion and capture” regardless of flag, as they blockaded the waterway on Monday (13 April).
A Chinese-owned tanker sailed through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday (14 April), becoming the first to navigate the channel since the blockade.
The Strait of Hormuz has been central to the war, used by Iran to cause chaos to the global supply chain of oil and gas. Approximately 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gases are transported through the route.
Iran responded by threatening ports belonging to American allies in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
