Real Madrid vs Girona: Real Madrid suffered another setback in their LaLiga title race after being held to a 1-1 draw by Girona FC at the Santiago Bernabéu on Friday.
The dropped points could prove costly, with Madrid at risk of falling nine points behind FC Barcelona if their rivals secure a win against Espanyol. With just seven matches remaining, the result leaves Madrid’s title ambitions hanging in the balance.
The draw also capped a difficult week for the hosts, who are now winless in three matches across competitions. This run follows a league defeat to Mallorca and a 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal.
Real Madrid vs Girona: What Went Down At Bernabeu?
After a lively start from both sides, Madrid eventually broke the deadlock early in the second half. Federico Valverde struck from distance in the 51st minute, with Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga failing to deal cleanly with the effort as it slipped through his grasp.
However, Girona responded swiftly. Just 11 minutes later, Thomas Lemar produced a composed finish from the edge of the area, beating Andriy Lunin to restore parity.
Madrid had opportunities to extend their lead earlier in the game, with Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior both going close, while Girona also threatened through efforts from Azzedine Ounahi and Arnau Martínez.
In the closing stages, Madrid pushed for a winner but lacked sharpness in the final third. Kylian Mbappé came closest late on, but his penalty appeal was waved away despite claims of a foul inside the box.
Despite dominating large spells, Madrid were unable to find a decisive goal, leaving them with a single point and mounting pressure as the title race enters its final stretch.
