Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey has called on Sir Keir Starmer to withdraw US access to UK air bases to prevent Britain becoming an “accomplice to war crimes”.
In a letter to the prime minister, Mr Davey and 57 other Lib Dem MPs say that if the government refuses, it must “at the very least” formally clarify and publish the conditions placed on the US for use of UK bases to ensure it is only defensive, commit to monitoring the outcome of all sorties and report them to Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee.

Greens’ leader Zack Polanski also called for the government to “immediately and unequivocally suspend support for the US military”.

Iran’s civilisation threatened by Trump dates back to 6th century BCE
Iran’s ancient civilisation can be traced as far back as the sixth century BCE.
The country’s population of 92 million descended from the first Aryan tribes and is one of the oldest civilisations on earth.
The Achaemenian dynasty, which lasted from the sixth to the fourth century BCE, was known for its sophisticated art and architecture.
Iranians also contributed to people’s early understanding of maths, astronomy and medicine.
The term Persia was used for centuries, chiefly in the West, to designate those regions where Persian language and culture dominated.
But Iran is highly diverse ethnically and culturally. Persians account for 61 percent of the population, and other groups include Azerbaijanis, Kurds and Turkic groups.
Iran’s language, Farsi is the language in which the great works of Rumi and Omar Khayyam were written.

President Donald Trump has issued a stark threat to Iran on Tuesday, saying that “a whole civilisation will die tonight”.
“A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” he wrote in a post on Truth Social.
“I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?
“We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”

US comments on Nato pushing Europe to seek alternatives, says Spanish foreign minister
Complaints made by the United States about Nato in recent weeks are pushing Europe to seek alternative security options, Spain’s foreign minister Jose Manuel Albares said on Tuesday.
“Nato is a mutually beneficial alliance for both Europeans and Americans … But the US administration’s remarks and new positions on Euro-Atlantic security are inviting us Europeans to take a leap in terms of our sovereignty and defence matters,” Albares told La Sexta TV channel.
“We must take our citizens’ security and dissuasion into our own hands.”
President Donald Trump had made several remarks about what he perceived as a lack of support over Iran, and said he was “absolutely” considering withdrawing America from the alliance.
