April 7 (UPI) — Former Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey will retire from soccer, he announced Tuesday on social media.
Ramsey, 35, spent last season at UNAM of Mexico’s Liga MX. He left the club after making just six appearances. He previously suited up for Nice, Juventus, Rangers, Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City, in addition to his time with Arsenal.
“This has not been an easy decision to make,” Ramsey wrote on Instagram and X. “After a lot of consideration, I have decided to retire from football.”
Ramsey went on to thank Wales and the other clubs he spent time with. He also gave credit to his family for supporting him throughout his career.
“And a huge thank you to my wife and children and all my family,” Ramsey wrote. “Without you by my side throughout, none of this would have been possible.”
Ramsey made his senior debut with Cardiff City in 2006. He also made 86 appearances for the Wales national team. He recorded 21 international goals.
Ramsey scored 64 goals over 369 appearances — including two FA Cup final winners — for Arsenal.
