President Lee Jae Myung congratulated Netflix’s “KPop Demon Hunters” on winning Academy Awards, expressing hope that the animated film’s success would further expand the global reach of Korean culture.
Lee posted the message on the social media platform X after “KPop Demon Hunters” won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for its original soundtrack “Golden” at the 98th Academy Awards in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on Sunday (local time).
“KPop Demon Hunters is a work that shows how culture can connect people around the world beyond borders and language,” Lee wrote. “Combining the dynamic energy of K-pop, Korean sensibilities and unique imagination, it delivers a new kind of enjoyment while further expanding the horizons of our culture.”
Lee thanked co-director Maggie Kang and the film’s production team, as well as the composer of “Golden,” saying their achievement has made South Korea and Koreans around the world proud.
Noting that it took a long time for stories with Koreans as the protagonists to shine at the center of the global stage, Lee expressed hope that the achievement would serve as momentum for the next generation of creators to pursue bigger dreams on the international stage
